TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- General Counsel Peter Antonacci announced that the Department of Economic Opportunity has filed a lawsuit against Digital Domain Media Group and related parties seeking to recoup millions of dollars of economic incentives that were fraudulently gained through false assurances, material misrepresentation and an organized scheme to defraud the state of Florida. William R. Scherer of Conrad and Scherer will be handling the case for the state.

General Counsel Peter Antonacci said, “Today, the state has filed suit to recoup tens of millions of dollars of stolen taxpayer funds and we will do everything possible to recover the public funds stolen by Digital Domain.”

This July, the state announced the state had retained outside legal counsel to identify any and all legal action available against the company and any other individuals involved in wrongdoing related to the collapse of the Digital Domain project. A March 2013 IG Report revealed the usual state regulatory processes were circumvented to give Digital Domain economic incentives.
