Florida authorities say they have not found any wrongdoing in the deletion of emails written and sent by Gov. Rick Scott and members of his transition team.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement on Wednesday released the results of a 10-month investigation. Scott asked the agency to look into how and why emails he wrote shortly before he became governor were deleted even though they are supposed to be public records.
The FDLE report says it could not find any evidence that Scott or other transition members instructed anyone to delete emails. The agency concluded that two top campaign aides closed down the email accounts without consulting the governor and without realizing data would be lost.
FDLE says it was able to recover some emails, but not all of them.
