Tallahassee, FL --May 31, 2012--

Tallahassee Firefighters got a special gift Thursday 5-31-12.

Sail High School junior Katelyn Holley presented the fire department with a tapestry she made herself. It took her about three months to create the piece of art, which she is calling the "Unrecognized Heroes" .

The artwork will hang inside the Tallahassee Fire Department Museum, which is located inside their training facility off of Municipal Way.

"I have a bunch of family and friends that are firefighters and I feel that firefighters aren't really recognized for what they do every day and they put their life on the line without thinking twice," says
Katelyn Holley, the artist.

"We see people not at their best time, we don't have a lot of time nor do we expect a lot of of gratitude on scene. We want to go in there and be who we need to be for the people who need us, so to have this off-time, this moment away from the chaos where people say 'hey, we appreciate you' means a great deal to us," says Chief Cindy Dick of the Tallahassee Fire Department.

The artwork will join about 150 other artifacts in the Fire Department's Museum. Some artifacts inside the museum date back as far as the Civil War. The public is invited to view Holley's artwork as well as the other artifacts in the museum this weekend during an open house from 10a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday 6-2-12
