Students 'Connect the Dots' Between Weird Weather and Climate Change

Students from Leon High School and FAMU came out Saturday 5-5-12 to raise awareness about climate change.

They're doing it as part of Climate Impacts Day. The global event 'connects the dots' between extreme weather events and climate change.

"Florida is especially going to be impacted by the climate crisis because of the fact that we have such a large coast line as the sea level rises a lot of our areas are going to be under water," says LaRae Donnellan of the FAMU Green Coalition.

Donnellan says some of the signs of climate change are that the average temperature for this past March was 8.7 degrees higher than normal.

You should pay heed to the Mayans. They knew precisely what is occuring now.

The science is not really the issue, the interpretation of the science is our main issue. The climate change is real, but we do not really understand or have a very good grasp of all the variable involved in determining why. Using the change to further a sociopolitical adgenda is what is mostly going on. In the 90's R-12 refrigerant was ban for just such a roos, the premise was that chlorine gas from the breakdown of the refrigerant was destroying ozone. One major Volcanic eruption (Mt St Helen) produces more chlorine gas than 5000 years of R-12 refrigerant use.

Well put! It was also interesting to learn how expirations of pripritary patents coincided with so damages which so many of the propellants and refrigerants were doing. So 34A became the panacea and not a single one of the folks commenting here can even admit they were possibly used in their passion to enshrine Albert Gore or Dr. Hansen.

I have trouble believing people who can't spell agenda, or ruse, or proprietary. Obviously, they don't read much. So where do they get their information? How can they be trusted?

That bothers me as well, but after following posts for a while, I think many of the comments are posted by folks with handheld devices as opposed to state workers on company time sitting at a computer with spell check. Think the producers ( with hand devices ) may have more constructive things to say anyhow. Just have to get over it I guess.

You should be a teacher! Caustic and polemic statements from each sociopolitical position negate logical dialogue so the future of the planet we leave to others defaults to puppets of NATO or well meaning laity who convert it into a mindless green religion or baptize this raw ubformulated data into their own faith, both of whom, who most of us choose to tune out.

The other opinions the first Jim mentions are other people, but not the majority. Most scientists (99%) worth their salt (and not on Fox News's payroll) will readily state that there is DEFINITELY climate change taking place. Sadly, the ultra-right has clouded science and politics. But it's really quite obvious: Walk inside a greenhouse. Is it warmer in there? Could that be happening here? Are there any other planets (Venus) that are hotter due to C02 buildup that could serve as a warning?

By the tone of this posting was the point of my post. Sadly the ultra-left has contributed their share of the clouding of the science and politics. Both theories should be presented to the students. Presented with the evidence and weight of each.

The greenhouse is not Venus sir, it is Uranus! The same location as the heads of most of the pro warming commenters.

Wow, so if you don't have valid argument, just insult the other person. Stay classy my friend.

That was classic. As in 4th grade classic immaturity. Classic Baiting the intelligent folks who just seem to cant comprehend that their scientific data clusters of questions and trends would trully have some credibility if The 2007 Nobel Peace Prize had not been shared, in two equal parts, between the IPCC and Al Gore.

It's very hard to determine if some of these comments are intended to be humorous, or are unintentionally humorous. For example, the comments by Docker at 7:54PM, by rob at 7:30 AM, by jb at 5:39 PM.

Juvenile and distracting but a few of them rightly point out that NATO does more harm than good by their involvement. Farting cow comments do not further our cause much either, should we rethink that one professor?

I wonder how many of these students have been exposed to all opinions about climate change. I wonder if the opinions were presented with fairness and given the same weight. Just wonderin.......

Climate change is real, ask Noah.
  • by rob on May 6, 2012 at 04:30 AM
These results have been brought to you by the exact same scientists who said 20 years ago, we would be in the middle of another deep freeze, and the hockey stick climate change guy (something that was already proven to be a lie)...so, this is more about guilt than anything else....just another way to destroy america. Search "if i wanted america to fail" for more evidence.
