Suspect Leads FHP on 10-Mile High-Speed Chase in Gadsden Co.

The suspect, Charlie Jernard Williams, 32, of Quincy Florida was driving his 2005 Ford Taurus when an Florida Highway Patrol trooper clocked Williams' vehicle going 74 MPH in a 45 MPH zone on High Bridge Road in Gadsden County, according to FHP.

When FHP trooper John Baas attempted to pull the vehicle over, Williams sped away in an attempt to flee. Williams fled west on High Bridge Road to County Road 65-B.

Trooper Sterling Safford stopped all traffic on State Road 267 to prevent a possible crash when Williams turned on to the road.

Trooper Baas performed the PIT maneuver on Williams' vehicle, causing the fleeing vehicle to speed off in another direction. The Taurus struck an embankment and Williams, along with passenger Reshard Allen Long, attempted to flee on foot.

Long was taken into custody at the vehicle, while Williams ran. Trooper Baas fired his taser at Williams, and Williams was then taken into custody. Williams was taken to the Gadsden County Jail, charged with felony fleeing and eluding.

The pursuit was approximately 10 miles and took about 9 minutes.
