Suwannee Co., FL - A four hour armed standoff shook a sleepy neighborhood in Suwannee County Tuesday night. SWAT teams and Deputies had to talk down a woman threatening to start shooting officers.
Suwannee County Investigators say it all started when 49 year old Janice Thomas was attempting to commit suicide with pills. She had locked herself in the bedroom and when officers got there, they had to force their way in the door where they found the woman sitting cross-legged on the bed and pointing a gun at them. They were forced to take cover outside.
Thomas then came out with the gun in-hand, threatening to start shooting them if they didn't leave. The SWAT team soon responded. Finally around 8:00 p.m., Thomas gave herself up and came out of the trailer without the gun, where she was taken into custody.
Janice thomas is in the Suwannee County Jail. She's charged with Attempted Murder and nine counts of Aggravated Assault with a firearm on law enforcement officers.
