The Tallahassee Police Department is urging consumers to be aware of the below scam, as investigators have received multiple calls regarding this type of "green dot credit card" ruse. Investigators have discovered their are also "copy cat" scams in which the person identifies themselves as a "collector" from the city utilities department, telling the potential victims that if they send money on a green dot credit card immediately their power will not be turned off.

As with the below scam, TPD assures our citizens that ANY representative from the city would never ask you to pay for a bill using a pre-paid credit card. City representatives also will not contact you and demand payment for any of the cities utilities or any other services. Again, never conduct financial business with someone over the phone unless you are positive it is a reputable company.

If you have been contacted in this manner, do not conduct any financial transactions and contact the Tallahassee Police Department immediately at (850) 606-5800.
