Tallahassee, Florida - July 20, 2012 -
The Tallahassee Police Department would like to thank City employees, citizens, businesses and Tallahassee Police personnel that contributed to the Bobby Reed Memorial Fund. The Special Operations Division has been inundated with phone calls from citizens and businesses expressing sympathies and wishing to make donations. Within a matter of days, donations from all over the surrounding area were mailed or delivered to the police department to assist with this cause. “The outpouring of community support has been tremendous. Because of the generosity of our community, we are now able to provide Mr. Reed with a proper burial in a local cemetery,” said Captain Audrey Smith, Special Operations Division Commander. Not only were financial donations sent, but in-kind donations were also received such as a headstone from Tallahassee Monument and a floral spread from Elinor Doyle Florist.
The funeral services for Mr. Bobby Reed will be held on Monday, July 23rd at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Strong and Jones Funeral Home. The service is open to the public. Burial will immediately follow the services in the Belair Cemetery on Ross Road.
Tallahassee, Florida - July 13, 2012 -
Mr. Bobby Reed, a Tallahassee Police School Crossing Guard, passed away on June 5th. Unfortunately, Mr. Reed does not have immediate family members or insurance to cover his burial. Because of this, the Tallahassee Police Department is seeking community donations to cover those expenses.
Mr. Reed worked as a crossing guard for the past 5 years. Although not assigned to a specific school, Mr. Reed was as a relief person who covered the shifts for other guards at their assigned schools. He also served as a Special Events Traffic Assistant (SETA) and worked directing traffic at most football games and parades since the inception of the SETA program 2 years ago.
Although arrangements were in the works to provide Mr. Reed with a pauper’s burial, TPD’s Captain Audrey Smith thought differently. She surmised, “It saddens me that one of our own would be buried in an unidentifiable grave without a memorial service. Because Mr. Reed dedicated the latter years of his life serving our agency, our community and our children, the least we can do is provide him with a proper burial.”
A memorial fund has been established to raise the necessary funds to provide Mr. Reed with a proper burial.
