TPD Investigate Stabbing Death

Updated 6:08pm 2-22

A Tallahassee man is killed in an early morning stabbing. It was a result of what police say was a domestic dispute taken too far.

Octavious Grice says he got a call early Tuesday morning that his uncle had died.

Grice said, "I was like, ah, man. I just burst out in tears."

Tallahassee Police say 31-year-old Cedric Nix was stabbed around 2:00 Tuesday morning.

Investigators say they are not releasing details because they believe it is related to a domestic dispute.

However, Nix's nephews tell us that the stabbing happened at Stratford Landing Apartments on Mission Road in Tallahassee.

They say Nix lived in apartment 136 with his girlfriend that the nephew's say was bad news.

Grice said, "We already knew that , from younger days growing up. We already knew. I'm not surprised."

Regardless of his love life, his nephews say they always had a close relationship with Nix.

His nephew Javier Hall said, "It's just unbelievable. I couldn't believe it, like, are you serious? The next thing you know the tears started coming. I miss him already."

Police say Nix was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital where he died from his injuries.

TPD Spokesperson Officer David McCranie said, "There's a lot of information, a lot of forensic information we need to review. There's a lot of work to be done to reach a determination as to what occurred."

Grice said, "The clues are going to come through one day, one of these days. What's done in the dark is going to come to the light--bright light."

Nix's nephews say Nix and his girlfriend had been arguing the day before the stabbing and say Nix returned to the apartment sometime that night, and the next thing they heard, Nix had been stabbed.

No charges have been filed at this time.

But, police say they have contacted the State Attorney's Office and a complete review of the circumstances leading to the death of Cedric Nix will be done.

This morning, Feb. 22 at approximately 2:10AM, the Tallahassee Police Department responded to a reported stabbing in the 2600 block of Mission Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered 31 year-old Cedric Nix had been stabbed. Mr. Nix was transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The investigation is ongoing, but is believed to be domestic in nature. Because the case is believed to be related to a domestic dispute, details cannot be released. A person of interest has been identified and interviewed. Additionally, the Tallahassee Police Department has contacted the State Attorney's Office and a complete review of the circumstances leading to the death of Cedric Nix will be conducted. Investigators are awaiting results of an autopsy, forensic examination, and other evidence in an effort to have a clear understanding of the events prior to Mr. Nix's death.
