TALLAHASSEE, FL - Batter Up! Some 400 kids and their families will descend upon Tallahassee this week as the City's Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs Department (PRNA) hosts the Dizzy Dean State Tournament from Thursday, June 20, through Wednesday, June 26, at the James Messer Sports Complex, 2730 Jackson Bluff Road.
This is the third time this prestigious youth baseball tournament has been held in Tallahassee. The 2013 Dizzy Dean State Baseball tournament is anticipated to generate $410,292 in direct visitor spending to our community.
Thirty-nine teams in eight age divisions, 7U to 14U, will compete. Teams will travel from as far away as St. Petersburg and Tampa, joining the 11 local teams set to compete, all with the hopes of taking home the state title and advancing to the World Series in Southaven, Miss.
Team members who have pre-registered will kick-off the tournament with a skills competition on Wednesday, June 19, starting at 4 p.m. with events including "Super Around the Horn," "Golden Arm," "Stealing Superstar" and "Fastest Team Around the Bases."
