[UPDATE] Tallahassee Fire Dept: Multiple Fires in Bradfordville Area

PRESS RELEASE FROM LCSO:

At approximately 1:00 p.m. on April 19, 2011 the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, the Tallahassee Fire Department and the Florida Department of Agriculture responded to the area of Bradfordville Road and
Thomasville Road in reference to several brush fires. The Tallahassee Fire Department extinguished 16 separate fires in the same general area.

Witnesses told deputies and detectives that they observed a white male subject wearing blue jeans and no shirt in the areas where the fires had been started. At approximately 6:30 p.m. deputies located
James M. Stewart, 50, in the Bradfordville area. Stewart fit the description of the man observed leaving the area of the fires. Stewart was questioned by detectives about these incidents and admitted his
involvement in setting the fires.

Two of the fires were set near Chiles High School and the others were set in the wooded area behind the Kohl’s Department Store, the Publix Shopping Center and Target.

Stewart was arrested and taken to the Leon County Jail.

LCSO says the person of interest has admitted his involvement with Tuesday afternoon's brush fires. The suspect is arrested and booked into the Leon County Jail.

We will have a mug shot as soon as it becomes available.

LCSO says they have captured a person of interest, but no charges have been filed at this time.

UPDATE 4-19-2011 4:30pm,

Tallahassee, FL -

The Tallahassee Fire Department has been able to contain all the fires in the Bradfordville area, and LCSO continues to search for the man who they believe intentionally set 13 fires. No homes were damaged by any of the fires and apparently none were threatened by the blazes.

LCSO is looking for a thin, white man in his 50s wearing no shirt and jeans.

Tallahassee, FL -

The Tallahassee Fire Department is currently fighting 13 brush fires in the Bradfordville area.

Leon County Sheriff's Office and TFD say they believe the fires were intentionally set. They are currently looking for a white man believed to be in his 50's who is wearing no shirt and jeans.

Officials believe the first blaze was set near Chiles High School and subsequent fires were ignited in isolated areas along Bradfordville Road.

LCSO has a helicopter in the air and bulldozers are being to cut better paths to fight the flames.

WCTV will continue to monitor the developing situation and bring you any updates as they become available.

The Tallahassee Fire Department is currently fighting 13 brush fires in the Bradfordville area, according to Travis Oaks with TFD. There is no property damage at this time. The Leon county Sheriff's Office has a helicopter in the area, and the Division of Forestry is assisting.
