There are a lot of salesmen in this world, but only a select few can sell anything to anyone.
That's where Jimmy Ragans comes in. He's an oil guy or a tire guy--but ask him to try and sell fruit cakes---
And that's where his true magic comes about.
If there's a product to sell, there's a good chance Jimmy Ragans has sold it from tires, to oil, to mini-markets.
"They say, Jimmy, what are you selling today?"
The answer to that question is fruit cakes. Stored away in the most unusual of places, Ragans works out of a warehouse at the Eli Roberts building and works his magic to sell fruit cakes to friends, family, and anyone else looking for something sweet this holiday season.
"Our biggest year was the year before last we sold 5,100 pounds. This year we are shooting for 4,000 or two tons," said Jimmy Ragans.
The cakes are sold for Civitan which focuses on children with developmental disabilities. And in his circle of friends, Ragans is known as the fruitcake guy---a honor bestowed only to the top salesman in the group.
"his business takes him all about town and he is a fantastic salesman on behalf of the club," said Civitan President Gene Caruthers.
Ragans has been in Tallahassee for 53 years. He's learned some new tricks in his later years. For example, if you want one pound of cake, he'll try and get you to buy a case. Just a little trick he's learned along the way.
"I enjoy sales. I've done it all my life. I was in the tire business before this, so it's great to get out and meet people."
