Tallahassee, Florida -- March 31, 2011
If you've always wanted to have the opportunity to help shape the City of Tallahassee's budget, now is your chance! As part of the City Commission's ongoing commitment to make it easy for citizens to be involved in government, the City is offering a new opportunity to residents by hosting three public budget input meetings April 4-6 at sites across the community.
The meetings are open to the public and will take place between 6-8 p.m., as follows:
Monday, April 4 - Gilchrist Elementary School (cafeteria), 1301 Timberlane Rd.
Tuesday, April 5 - Walker-Ford Community Center, 2301 Pasco St.
Wednesday, April 6 - Tallahassee Senior Center (second floor auditorium), 1400 N. Monroe St.
"Earlier this year our Citizen Budget Review Committee provided a number of recommendations to help citizens to become more involved in and informed about the City's budget process," said Raoul Lavin, director of the Department of Management and Administration, which includes oversight of the City's budget. "By holding these public input meetings now, citizens get involved at the beginning of the process as we develop the FY 2012 City budget that begins in October of this year. We look forward to explaining how the City's budget process works, and to receiving insightful feedback from citizens."
Citizens are invited to attend any of the meetings at the location most convenient for them. At each of the three meetings, staff from the City's budget office will begin with a brief presentation on how the budget process works. Citizens will then have the opportunity to interact with staff in an open house format, reviewing different City service areas, learn how budget allocations are made and offer their input on future budget considerations.
