The watermelon festival returns.

The food, the music and the vendors are all back; and, of course we can't forget about the watermelons.

"It's a good time, nice music, nice food, good time," said David Palmisano, a local resident.

The event is put on in Monticello, hosted by the Monticello Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce.

People of all ages came out Friday evening to enjoy the fun.

"Bring the kids out, go look at all the booths, see all the vendors and just have a good time this evening," Palmisano said.

Monticello resident Regina Cox came out to market her new Teen Center.

She hopes to make money at the festival and the proceeds will pay for the expenses, so teens can play at the center for free.

"It would keep the kids off the street and would keep their minds focused on what they need to do," Cox said.

With thousands of people funneling in to downtown Monticello, the local economy should see a large boost.

"I think it will boost the economy. I think it's a great, great, great activity and the kids are very involved because they have the pageants and stuff for the kids," Cox added.

The festival continues through Saturday, June 15.

It starts bright and early at 8 a.m. and runs until 5 p.m.

Organizers expect more than 5,000 people to celebrate in the festivities.
