News Release: Uber
August 28, 2014
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Transportation and ridesharing service Uber has expanded its business to Tallahassee.
Starting today, Uber users in Tallahassee will now be able to request a ride with the push of a button using a mobile app. The company says their ridesharing service, UberX, offers reliability and cheaper prices than a local taxi.
Uber is offering new and existing users their first five rides for free through September 1 in celebration of the service's arrival in Tallahassee.
The company says that fares from the airport to University Way are around $13, West 10 to the Strip on Tennessee Street are around $9, and Dick Howser Stadium to Heritage Grover are around $6.
Uber also says that students who share a photo from their Uber ride on Instagram or Twitter and use "#UberFSU" could win $500 in Uber credits.
With the service's addition of Tallahassee and 21 other college towns around the country, Uber now offers service to over 600,000 students and to a total of 55% of the U.S. population.
The Uber app is available for download on Apple's App Store and Google Play.
