MIAMI, FL - June 9, 2012
Two South Florida men will travel from Bimini to Miami to raise awareness of plastics in oceans -- all while standing on a paddleboard.
Bill Whiddon and Thad Foote will attempt the nearly 50-mile trip early Saturday morning, starting at the Big Game Club in Bimini. They are expected to land in Miami that evening, weather permitting.
A boat carrying provisions will be following the pair during their trek across the Atlantic Ocean. Their progress can also be followed online.
The men hope to raise awareness for the Surfrider Foundation's Rise Against Plastics Campaign. The goal of the campaign is to reduce plastics in the oceans and protect the nation's coastlines.
