Jones says he didn't know there was a warrant out for his arrest until his family saw it on our newscast last night.

Jones says not a day goes by that he doesn't think about the deadly accident and the pain it has caused Michael Saunders' family. He says he is trying to do the right thing by turning himself in.

As for the weapons charges in Georgia, Jones says he was a passenger in his co-worker's car and had no idea there were guns in the car.

Jones says the co-worker did have a carry permit for both of the guns.

UPDATE 10.5.2010 by Julie Montanaro

A police report obtained from the Woodstock, Georgia Police Department shows that Guy Jones was arrested September 18th during a traffic stop for an expired Florida license tag.

Arrest papers say the car was driven by Brandon Sims of Woodstock and Jones was a front seat passenger. The officer says Sims handed him his license, insurance and weapons permits. According to arrest reports, when the officer asked if there were any weapons in the car, Sims said yes, and the officer proceeded to remove a Beretta from the glove box and a 38 caliber Cobra from the center console. Arrest papers say both guns were loaded and the Cobra had a bullet in its chamber.

Arrest papers say when the officer did a background check on Jones, it came back with a 2005 aggravated battery arrest out of Leon County. Arrest papers say Jones was then arrested for firearm possession by a convicted felon.

Sims was also cited for having an unregistered vehicle.

A man accused of running over a Tallahassee Police officer and fleeing the scene has been arrested in Georgia and a judge in Tallahassee has just issued a new warrant for his arrest.

Guy Jones was arrested for vehicular homicide in December 2009.
He's accused of running over veteran Tallahassee Police Officer Michael Saunders as Saunders was jogging on Paul Dirac Drive early that morning.

Jones was freed on $35,000 bond the next day.

A judge has revoked Jones's bond and has just issued a new warrant for his arrest after getting word that Jones had been arrested in Cherokee County, Georgia on firearms charges.

A spokesman with the Cherokee County, Georgia Sheriff's Office confirms Jones spent two days in jail there. Lt. Jay Baker says jail records show Jones was booked on September 18th and released on September 20th after posting an $11,200 bond.

A police spokeswoman in Woodstock, Georgia say Jones was arrested on two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. We are awaiting a copy of that police report.

Prosecutor Jack Campbell says he has no idea where Jones is and says he has always been concerned that the low bond in this case may not be enough to ensure Jones shows up for trial.

We are trying to reach Jones's attorney of record, Elizabeth Peskin, for a comment on Jones's whereabouts and whether he intends to turn himself in.

Jones is scheduled to go on trial for the deadly hit and run next month. His trial is set to begin November 8th.
