Tallahassee, FL – The US Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force (FRFTF) today announced the arrest of Dumauriea McGee, 22 years of age from Grambling, Louisianna for Second Degree Murder. McGee was currently being sought by authorities in Rustin, La. after investigators determined that McGee shot and killed 31 year old Deanthony Mardis in a Rustin La. neighborhood on May 30, 2013.
McGee then fled Rustin and traveled to Tallahassee, FL in an attempt to evade authorities. On June 3, 2013 US Marshals with the FRFTF developed information that McGee was staying in Tallahassee after arriving on a bus earlier in the day.
FRFTF investigators contacted their counterparts in Louisiana and the Rustin Police Department to inform them that the FRFTF had located their homicide suspect. Rustin Police were excited to hear the news and requested the FRFTF to apprehend McGee.
Within two hours of receiving the information on McGee FRFTF members knocked on the front door of the apartment McGee was supposed to be staying in at an apartment complex located in the 2600 block of East Park Avenue.
When McGee realized that law enforcement was at the apartment McGEE kicked out the screen on a second floor window and began to climb out.
McGee then noticed the two Tallahassee Police Department K-9 officers as well as several FRFTF members waiting for him below, McGee then climbed back into the apartment and attempted to flee from FRFTF members who had entered the apartment.
McGee was arrested after a brief struggle and is currently being held in the Leon County Jail awaiting his removal back to Rustin.
The Tallahassee Division of the FRFTF is comprised of state and local law enforcement officers from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office, Leon County Sheriff’s Office, Leon County State Attorney’s Office, Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Perry Police Department, Tallahassee Police Department, Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office.
US Marshal Ed Spooner stated that the arrest of Dumauriea McGee showcased the ability of federal, state and local law enforcement officers who currently work under the authority of the US Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force to quickly locate and safely apprehend violent fugitives who are on the run and hiding out in the North Florida area.
