[UPDATE] 4-16-2011 --

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – April 16, 2011 – Vasek Pospisil from Canada and Bobby Reynolds from the United States defeated Go Soeda from Japan and James Ward from Great Britain today in the final doubles match for the Tallahassee Tennis Challenger, 6-2, 6-4.

This was the first time for both doubles pairs to have teamed up together.

During the ceremonies, Reynolds stated that it was the first time that they have played together and if Pospisil ever wants to play again, Reynolds would be game. Both Reynolds and Pospisil stated that their partners’ strengths were “everything”. From each other’s serves, returns and even volleys, both could not pick a favorite strength their partner had. While Pospisil carries himself to be as mature as some of the more experienced players in this tournament, he is only 20 years old. Pospisil commented that Reynolds carried him through this match and enjoyed playing with him.

While being the perfect match, these champions have only known each other for about a year, but are looking forward to creating more memories as they continue their careers.

They've come from around the world. The pros, their coaches and plenty of supporters have made Tallahassee home for the week.

About 26 countries are represented on the Forestmeadows courts at the 12th annual Tallahassee Tennis Challenger.

Andrea Collarini, born in New York and raised in Argentina is competing for the first time at this challenger.

"It's better for us to have people to play from other countries because you can feel like you're always playing the same people. It's great," said Collarini.

Come Saturday someone will walk away with the grand prize.

But some businesses say they're already winning.

Many of the players and out-of-towners are staying at the Cabot Lodge on Raymond Diehl Road. Beth Rodan is the Sales Manager and said, "During this week and leading into the holidays, Easter and Passover and all those holidays, it seems to slow down a bit with session so yes, this is most definitely welcomed at this point."

The grand affair put on by a host of sponsors and hundreds of volunteers has a special place in the heart of tournament director, Karen Vogter.

Proceeds will benefit the Vogter Neuro ICU at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, where her late husband dedicated much of his time.

"We want the unit to be the best it can be," said Vogter. "So it's important to me that I carry on and all of us with the tournament carry on his legacy and make sure that unit is great so we have great health care here."

The tourney runs through Saturday. The Tennis Challenger has raised more than $350,000 during the passed 11 years for the neuro unit.
