TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – March 17, 2011 –
The Tallahassee Sports Council, a division of Leon County Tourism Development, also known as Visit Tallahassee, is proud to announce that Leon County will be hosting the 2011 National Softball Association (NSA) Girls Fast Pitch World Series (B) July 18-23, 2011. This fast-pitch tournament will bring more than 120 youth girl softball teams to the area, equating to an estimated 2,700 visitors and over $2.5 million in economic impact during a traditionally slow season.
“NSA has a long-standing reputation of producing successful tournaments across the United States,” said Lee Daniel, Executive Director of Visit Tallahassee. “We are very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to host such a prestigious and significant event here in Tallahassee.”
Hugh Cantrell, President of NSA, said that the NSA has not hosted a world series in the Sunshine State for the past five years, and the Girls Fast Pitch teams and their families have been asking to play in Florida for a while.
“Tallahassee was selected to host the 2011 event based on its many appealing attributes – its family atmosphere, easy access for teams traveling from the southern states, and the support from the Tallahassee Sports Council,” said Cantrell. “The players, parents and fans will enjoy visiting Tallahassee and all of its attractions.”
