The Palmer Munroe Teen Center rolled out the red carpet Monday to say thank you to all of the volunteers that make the center a special place for teens to hang out. The center closed in 2009 due to budget cuts, but the community pulled together to reopen it a year ago.
Tomica Smith is the Executive Director of the center. She said, "We always see the red carpet on TV, and we all want to feel special for a day. So it's really nice for us to be able to roll out the red carpet for them and give them this lunch and just say thank you."
Dominic Johnson is a teen that comes to the center often. He said he is thankful for the volunteers. Johnson added, "Kids have a lot of free time on their hands and we usually don't use that time very wisely. It's a nice place to be able to come."
The center says it wouldn't be able to keep the kids safe without these volunteers.
The "Famous for the day" volunteers help the teens at the center develop life skills, do homework, and just have fun.
