Walk Raises Money to Fight Alzheimer's

Tallahassee, FL-November 4, 2012

Hundreds from the Big Bend made the trek around Lake Ella to raise awareness and funds to fight Alzheimer's disease Sunday.

The 11th annual 'Forget-Me-Not-Walk' helps raise money for caregivers and those afflicted with the disease. Alzheimer's is a form of dementia. It a loss of brain function that affects memory, behavior and thinking.

"By having the community come together and work with the Alzheimer's Project it heightens awareness. I think that is one of the key points that brings a bigger awareness to the community," says Bill Wertman of Alzheimer's Project Inc.

Wertman says the group is hoping to raise about $35,000 this year. Last year, the group raised about $30,000.

About 400 people participated in this year's walk. It's hosted by Alzheimer's Project Inc.
