Thomasville, GA - In a little more than a month students will be roaming the halls again. To help them get started on the right foot the Thomas County Family Connection along with Thomasville City Schools and Thomas County Schools are holding their annual back to school supply drive.
"If children feel prepared and have the needed resources available they ultimately will succeed in school," said Kathy Megahee, Thomas County Family Connection Director.
The Back To School Blitz is in it's 8TH year and coordinators said they're expecting more than 2,000 students to receive supplies.
The bags will include three packs of paper, folders, pencils and erasers.
Kiwanis Club of Thomasville is just one many organizations in town that donates money to the event.
"We give out scholarships every year for high school children, but this way we're able to serve a lot more children who are in need," said Jim Prine, Kiwanis Club of Thomasville President.
Besides making a cash donation you can also help the Back To School Blitz by dropping off the school supplies mentioned to any of the Thomas County Public Libraries.
"So that everyone is kind of on an even footing at the beginning of the year, I see that as a real positive. There's no reason for every child not to be able to have basic essentials for the first day of school," said Dr. Dusty Kornegay, Thomas County Schools Superintendent.
The donated supplies will be given to students on August 2ND at the MacIntyre Middle School gym from 9:00A.M. to 11:00A.M. Parents must be presents with their children to receive the supplies.
There will also be free health screenings as well as other exhibits and demonstrations at the event.
