About 93 pounds of unwanted and potentially dangerous pills were collected Saturday during Operation Pill Drop, according to Jamy Steinberg, with the South Georgia Drug Task Force.
The Task Force, along with five area law enforcement agencies, set-up collection sites where anyone could drop off unused prescription drugs.
The drop off locations in south Georgia were held at the following agencies: Lanier County Sheriff's Office, Echols County Sheriff's Office, Cook County Sheriff's Office, Clinch County Sheriff's Office and at the Nashville Police Department.
This was the first nationwide effort of its kind sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
Drug Agents say the pills will be incinerated at the GBI Crime Lab in Atlanta.
