Valdosta State is partnering with the community to break ground on a brand new 1,700-square-foot learning center for area children.
The facility, which is sponsored by VSU's Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), will be an addition to the Ora Lee West Community Center.
VSU students will tutor primarily first through sixth graders.
And arts, music and science classes will be offered to help keep kids of all ages off the streets.
"Expose them to a learning environment," said Wayne Plumly, a SIFE student advisor. "They're gonna be able to come in here and we're gonna be able to mentor them one-on-one. We're gonna be able to talk with their teachers to be able to find out where and individual student is weak."
The new SIFE learning center is slated to open in December.
