VSU Police report 30 burglaries so far this year, compared with just four in both 2006 and 2008.
Police say some of the breakins are happening in dorms, where students typically let their guard down.
Since 2008, VSU's student body has increased by 12 percent, or 1,360 students.
For 2010, enrollment stands at 12,850 students.
"You have more people here, more opportunities for burglaries, more things to burglarize because the school is growing itself-- It's expanding outwards," said Tayler Boone, a freshman at VSU. "There's more things to do it and more people to do it."
Campus police urge students to keep their doors locked, not leave valuables out and to keep serial numbers on electronics.
