12-year-old Boy Charged with Aggravated Battery

Lowndes County, Georgia - October 27, 2011 -

On October 27, 2011 at 7:06 AM the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an incident occurring at the school bus stop on DW Wright Road in northern Lowndes County. A 12-year-old boy struck a 13-year-old girl in the face, breaking the child’s nose and also knocking out one of her teeth. The little girl ran home and her mother called 911. Deputies and EMS responded. The victim was transported to SGMC.

When the bus arrived the offender boarded the bus and left the scene. The bus driver was unaware that the incident had taken place. Deputies at the victim’s residence relayed the information concerning the offender’s identification and destination to the LCSO School Resource Officer at Pine Grove Middle School. When the offender arrived at Pine Grove he was taken into custody by S.R.O. Robert Adkins and detained temporarily at the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office. The offender was charged with one count of Aggravated Battery.

The offender was later taken before Lowndes Juvenile Judge Wayne Ellerbee who ordered the offender to be transferred to Thomasville Regional Youth Detention Center.

Neither the victim nor the offender’s names can be released due to their age.
