[UPDATE] 11-1 12:30PM --

Atlanta, Georgia (AP) --

Authorities say an enraged driver opened fire on a 17-year-old boy after his Mercedes was egged on Halloween, fatally shooting the prankster in the neck and throat as he attempted to run away.

The teen was struck in a hail of 10 bullets around 8 p.m. Sunday
when the car's driver confronted him, said Atlanta Police
spokeswoman Kim Jones. The victim, identified as Tivarus King, died
en route to Grady Memorial Hospital, according to the Fulton County
Medical Examiner's office.

Jones said officers dispatched to the scene spotted a gold
Mercedes driving by the northwest Atlanta crime scene and detained
the driver. She said the suspect was turned over to homicide
investigators for questioning but has not yet been charged.

Killing someone who isn't threatening your life or someone else's is murder. That said, wantonly damaging another person's propery can be dangerous. Young people go through a process of learning as they grow up--and some of them die in the process. Parents don't teach their kids to respect others just because it's the nice thing to do; that respect can usually earn them a margin of saftey in which to make their errors. We are flesh and blood, and in the right circumstances, our lives can disappear before we even have the chance to say, "huh?" This is such a tragedy for ALL involved.

Wow, any person on here who is pointing the finger at this kid and saying "he deserved it" is in my opinion a SAD excuse for a human being. We have ALL done stupid things in our lives. To the person that said he deserved it...you would not have the same opinio if it was your child! The guy who shot the teen is the real menance to society. What if you cut him off on the road...do you deserve to get shot too?

Killed for egging a car. I thought I had heard it all, and nothing would surprise me. A kid looses his life for this. No, he shouldn't have done it, but should he have been killed? NO! I hope this person is charged with murder. Come on folks, what is America coming to.

Someone died here people. A young mans life was cut short for a material possession. Crime ridden or not...there are heartless people all around the world, and no one mentions anything about the person who took his life and how wrong HE is. Lets keep that in mind. So sad...I would hate for his mother to read your comments.

Eggs will peel paint on a car quick. He deserved to be hurt because he would have hurt this paint job; but not necessarily killed.... maybe shot in the hands that thru the eggs & then laughed at as he was laughing when he egged the car. The parents probably wouldn't have taken responsibility for a car wash or paint job.... sorry kid!

This doesn't have anything to do with a draft or not having a draft. This kid was not taught very well. If you're going to egg a car, do it in a way that no can see you. He didn't deserve to be shot, but he also shouldn't be throwing things (even eggs) at cars. He picked the wrong guy to mess with, and unfortunately paid for it with his life. Hopefully this guy will pay for killing this kid.

If anybody would teach these kids American history these days --- the kids would know -- you SOAP THE WINDOWS....you don't egg the Mercedes! And that's only if they don't give you some candy. Also, Hallowween is for KIDS...not teens and adults. Seems like we've forgotten that too.

I don't think he deserved to be killed. But I can honestly say, I never egged anyone's car. Any "fun" I had as a teen didn't involve someone else's property.
