Albany, GA (AP) - Four men have been indicted in the killing of
an Albany businessman and former Lee County commissioner.
The men are charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and
armed robbery in the death of 67-year-old Walter Phelps.
Police say Phelps was shot July 3 at his business P&P Hardware
Center in Albany. Phelps died about a month later from
complications from the gunshot wound in his shoulder.
The men charged are: 21-year-old Jordan Harris, 19-year-old
Ezekiel James, 21-year-old Jamon Carter and 18-year-old Ryan
Richardson. Authorities say Richardson once worked for Phelps and
helped plan the robbery with this knowledge of the store's
surveillance cameras.
The men are being held without bond in the Dougherty County
jail. It was not immediately clear if they had attorneys.
