News Release: Thomas University
Arts for the Community at Thomas University (ACTU) will present “January Jazz” on Sunday, Jan. 19, at 4 p.m. in the Flowers Foods Executive Classroom of Smith-Bonvillian Hall on the Thomas University Main Campus.
The program will feature the Thomas University Jazz ensemble with special guests – guitarist Perry Osborn, vocalist Lisa Mitchell and pianist Jim Amend, all of whom are TU faculty members.
“We are doing a more acoustic program for this performance, and the new auditorium should work very well,” said Karl Barton, director of the group.
In addition to a variety of standard jazz, the program will also include a jazz version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and the program will conclude with some pieces with influences from both gospel and funk.
“The community members really help make this group special, and we are fortunate to have vibraphone player John Yetter and saxophonist Tony Chapman, who is new to the group this year,” Barton continued. “This will also be an opportunity to hear the group in a concert setting and give the members a real opportunity to shine.”
The concert is free and open to the public with a suggested donation of $5 per person. A reception will follow the performance. For additional information, visit www.thomasu.edu/actu, call (229) 227-6964 or e-mail email@example.com.
