Area Drug Sting Yields Shocking Surprise

Moultrie, Georgia - August 2, 2011 -

Deputies say some folks going to buy drugs were taking their infants and toddlers with them.

Colquitt County Deputies say bags of fake cocaine were sold during a drug sting the morning of Thursday, July 28th. What buyers didn't know was that inside the bags were dry apples.

A Crack house sits next door to a couple of kids, but on Thursday, a search warrant was issued and deputies set up shop.

"It's been five years since we've done an operation like this and by far this has been the most successful," says Colquitt County Drug Task Force Commander Steve Exum.

He says more than twenty people were arrested. Mary Johnson and Derrick Ryles were the first thrown behind bars.

Deputies say the window at the home located at 819 Ninth Avenue S.E. in Moultrie was used to distribute crack cocaine.

Exum tells WCTV they found about 10-12 grams of cocaine inside the home. He believes the people operating it cashed in more than one-thousand dollars a day.

"Drugs in the area, there's nothing we can do about it," says Colquitt County Resident Ted Jordan.

It wasn't the amount of money or the number of arrests that shocked Ted Jordan. Instead he says it was word that three of the people arrested brought their children, ages nine months to five years old, along for the ride.

"It must be one over-whelming powerful thing to do to have your kids there by your side," says Jordan.

Nobody can fix your kids father, except him. Stop spending your life on fixing him and start spending it on fixing you. My mother died of alcoholism, None of us could save her It was her choice. You have to let them manage themselves and you have to stop being so egotistically minded thinking you can manage them better that they can because the truth of the matter is you can't. You can only manage you. Look out for you. I have been there. He is going to die, you are not. What are you going to do about you? When are you going to start to see about you?

You all an addict is all about the addiction nothing else matters, that includes kids. Our government tells addicts, "If you don't want to work, that is ok. Will support you on the one condiion you have a kid." So they have kids. Your money pays them to have kids and now you all are saying you are horrified. The answer is simple, Stop paying people to have children. Do away with those programs.

I say lets make it a level playing field. Criminalize the sale of alcohol again - make it a crime to buy it. Then let the cops sit inside the liquor store and arrest the drug users as they go to by their bottles of poison. Why is the harmful drug ethyl alcohol OK and other drugs not OK - alcohol kills and ruins lives just like illegal drugs do. Drugs use and abuse is a medical issue. Help people to get off drugs - don't send them to jail and waste our tax dollars doing it.

Drug abuse is a disorder????Yeah like a mental disorder is. Take responsibility for your actions. YOU made the decision to take the drugs. You made the decision to buy the drugs. To real lawyer....you aren't one. You cannot read....the article said $1000.00 per day.
