DUBLIN, Ga. -- July 7, 2012
The southern leg of the Dublin Bypass will be dedicated to a World War II veteran who was one of the oldest paratroopers to jump in the invasion of Normandy.
The Dublin Courier-Herald reports the bypass will be dedicated to the memory of the late Lt. Kelso Horne, a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. Horne landed near St. Mere Eglise, France, in advance of the amphibious invasion later that morning.
Horne's photograph was published on the cover of Life magazine on Aug. 14, 1944, and remains one of the most highly sought-after covers of the magazine from that era.
The dedication is scheduled for Saturday at the Bethsaida Baptist Church Family Life Center on U.S. Highway 80 West. The public is invited to attend this free event.
