Victoria Rowell will speak at the annual 100 Black Men of Valdosta Black Tie Banquet.

The group works to channel the energy of the youth into positive ways to accomplish their dreams.

Rowell says mentors helped her achieve her dreams of becoming an actress.

"I could never have achieved what I have especially a long term acquaintance in relationship with CBS corporation, having worked there 17 years if I were not mentored," said Rowell.

Rowell has worked for the CBS network for 17 years.

The event kicked off Thursday night at 7, proceeds from it will go to the scholarships the group offers and student support classes such as SAT prep program.

That’s where you are wrong my friend. Anger and resentment come from the obvious segregation with events like these. Irish or Jewish don’t have to separate themselves from everyone else just to be heard. Events like these and people with your mindset are why segregation and racism still exist, because YOU are perpetuating the problem. You can’t have equality if you continuously separate yourselves from society, and that is the bottom line.

Funny how there is only anger and resentment when it is a "black" group. Would you prefer 100 African American men? If it was 100 Jewish men, 100 Irish men, etc. I doubt anyone would have anything to say. It's a shame that even positive things are attacked nowadays.

Exactly right off course. Everything identifying an organization, TV channel, etc should be outlawed if they are serious about getting rid of segregating themselves. (I don't mean in identification of criminals - that would be dumb.) Otherwise we should start having White Mens clubs, White Girls movies, White country clubs, White only movie theaters. I mean we can do it if they continue to segregate themselves. If they want to be part of America, get the chip off their shoulder and become part of America. Otherwise get on their horses and ride off to Africa or wherever it is that is so wonderful to them. We are America and you are either for it, or get out of the way. By the way Victoria Rowell is such a talented actress and dancer!

Perhaps this is such a big deal because there are so many black men that simply do not want to be a part of not only any kid's life but their own kids' lives. Not all, but definitely a lot. That being said, there are also a lot of white and Hispanic men the same way. Great job, Victoria!
