Archbold Memorial Hospital reports for every 830 surgeries, only one will become infected after the operation --- low numbers when compared to the national infection rate of one in every 57 surgeries.
Staff say they are 'proud' the proof of their diligence is in the numbers.
Archbold's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Charles Tomlinson, says it "has a lot to do with the surgical skills of the surgeons and physicians, but also the training and education of the employees so that they understand how to take care of patients and help prevent infections ... all those things come together for a really good outcome."
The hospital says their rates are also very low when it comes to other common infections, such as those that occur in the bloodstream from a catheter.
