Armed Robbery at Family Dollar

Valdosta, Georgia - July 13, 2011 -

On July 12, 2011 at approximately 9:20pm, officers from the Valdosta Police Department responded to the Family Dollar at 2021 Marion Street in reference to a robbery. Officers arrived and spoke to James Lewis who indicated that he and another employee, Jacoia Phillips, were inside closing up, when an African American male approached them with a handgun and demanded the money. Lewis indicated that they gave the offender an undisclosed amount of money and he left the store. The offender was described as an African American male, approximately 5’6” to 5’8” in height, thin to medium build, with short hair. The offender was wearing black clothing and had his face covered at the time of the incident. No one was hurt during the robbery. Detectives from the Valdosta Police Department and Crime Scene Technicians from the Valdosta-Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory responded to investigate.
