Valdosta, Georgia --
On November 28, 2010 at approximately 2:15AM, the Valdosta Police Department responded to the Motel 6, 2003 W. Hill Avenue in reference to the report of shots being fired. Officers from the Valdosta Police Department and Deputies from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. Officers made contact with Anthony Williams and Demetrius Motes who advised that they were walking across the parking lot of the motel, when the shooting started. Williams was struck once in the leg and Motes escaped with a few cuts and abrasions, but was not hit by the gunfire. They were both transported by EMS to SGMC where they were treated and released. Another bystander, Wendell Baisden was struck in the leg by a stray bullet and was taken to SGMC in a personal vehicle. He was treated and released. Demetrius Davis was believed to have been involved in the altercation where the shooting began. He was struck in the lower leg, thigh, and back. Davis was also taken to SGMC in a personal vehicle and he was treated and released. None of the injuries are considered to be life threatening. Detectives from the Valdosta Police Department Person Crime Unit and a Crime Scene Technician from the Valdosta-Lowndes Crime Laboratory responded to investigate. According to the investigation, it is believed that the shooting is drug related. Detectives indicated that they are looking for a possible suspect and other witnesses to the shooting. There is no further information available at this time.
Victims: Demetrius Davis, African American male; Anthony Williams, African American male; Demetrius Motes, African American male; and Wendell Baisden, African American male. All four victims are residents of Valdosta.
