Bainbridge, GA- The city of Bainbridge is using a new alert system to reach folks in case of an emergency.
The Bainbridge City Council has approved the Code RED service.
Local leaders will now be able to send voice messages, e-mails, text messages and social media messages to the public about things going on in the community.
That includes severe weather warnings, road closures or public safety issues.
Residents say they're excited about the new service. Jamie McAnelly said he thinks it will be beneficial, especially since technology and cell phones play such a big role in people's everyday lives.
The alert service will cost the city $8,000 a year for the next three years. Those funds will come from the city's budget.
Code Red will go into effect sometime next week.
