STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) -- Pitting his skills against more than 50 school bus drivers, Gil Riggs has proven himself to be the best in Georgia.
Riggs, a driver for Bulloch County Schools, won first place this month in the Road-e-o competition sponsored by the Georgia Association of Pupil Transportation.
The contest scores drivers on their ability to maneuver a school bus safely, from making turns to parallel parking and crossing railroad tracks. Drivers' buses also receive scored inspections and drivers take written tests on rules of the road.
Riggs ended up scoring 668 out of a possible 750 points at the
competition held June 8-9 in Warner Robins.
The state-level win means Riggs gets to compete against drivers
from across the U.S. and Canada next month in Baltimore.
