The Quitman-Brooks County Tourism Project Press Release

Destination Brooks, The Quitman-Brooks County Tourism Project, is looking for some strong, athletic glory-seekers to compete for a World Record in Skillet Throwing at the 2013 Brooks County Skillet Festival.

At the festival, being held October 19 on the Brooks County Courthouse Square, 6 people will compete for this esteemed record by throwing a cast iron skillet as far as they possibly can. The one who throws for the longest distance will be named the World Record holder and will enjoy eternal fame and skillet glory!

Anyone, and we mean ANYONE, interested in qualifying must contact Lauren Basford at a 229-263-9085 or email at by October 2.

There will be two preliminary heats held at local events in the coming weeks. The top two finalists from each competition will compete at the Skillet Festival final. There is an entry fee of $10.00 which will go toward the cost of the World Record Attempt.
