New Lucas Automatic CPR machines take the place of a paramedic doing chest compressions, which Fire Chief Chris Jones says is critical when an ambulance is an hour away.
Jones says the county purchased the machines after they saw survival rates skyrocket in the City of Thomasville from their use.
Says Jones, "We have a very, very tight budget this year but we saw the need, and how it would impact the community, and we were able to get them funded through the normal budget process."
The department installed the eight machines just over a week ago in Coolidge, Boston, Ochlocknee, and in the main Thomas County Emergency Management building.
Jones says the device's price tag is about $13,000, but saving just one person's life is worth the cost.
