Atlanta, GA (AP) - With just three weeks left until the general
election, the race for governor in Georgia turned sharply negative
in a debate at the Temple in Atlanta.
Democrat Roy Barnes and Republican Nathan Deal engaged in a
heated back-and-forth Tuesday night as Barnes attacked Deal over a
lucrative no-bid arrangement with the state that spawned a
congressional ethics probe ands questioned Deal's high spending on
Deal accused Barnes of attacking him in ads and suggested if the
state contract was so bad Barnes should have ended it when he was
"Is this what we have to look forward to over the next three
weeks?" Libertarian John Monds observed after the verbal tussle.
