Cairo Boy Dies After His Skateboard Hits Car

Family and friends said goodbye to the Cairo high school student who was killed when he was hit by a car over the weekend. His 12-year old-friend tells Eyewitness news, he saw the whole thing happen.

The funeral was at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. Grady County sheriff's deputies say on Sunday afternoon, 14 year old Philip Kyle Lee was skateboarding just outside his father's home off Bold Springs Road. That's when he laid across two skateboards and rolled into the street and was hit by a car.

Twelve-year-old Logan Powell was with him and says, "I was up there on the skateboard, then he went down and was hit by a car, and I saw it with my own two eyes."

Kyle later died at Grady Memorial Hospital. Investigators say the driver is not facing any charges.

Family and friends will say a final goodbye to a Cairo high school freshman killed in a weekend accident.

14-year-old Philip "Kyle" Lee was skateboarding Sunday afternoon when he laid down on two of the boards and rolled from a driveway to the street.

Deputies say that's when a car came by, hitting the boy.
It happened at Kyle's father's home off Bold Springs Road.
Kyle was taken to Grady Memorial hospital where he died from his injuries.

Investigators say the driver is not facing any charges.
Kyle's funeral will be this afternoon at three at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Cairo.

Services for Philip Kyle Lee, 14, of Cairo, GA, are at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2011, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Cairo, GA, with interment following in the church cemetery. Pastor Mike Nichols will officiate. Kyle passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2011.

Active pallbearers will be members of the Cairo High School Junior ROTC and Color Guard.

Kyle was born in Cairo, GA, on July 9, 1997, to Christopher Wayne Lee and Linda Michele Alvarez, who survive.

He is survived by: father, Chris Lee of Cairo, GA and his mother, Michele Alvarez of Whigham, GA; brothers, Adam Lee and Dustin Lee both of Pelham, GA, and Beau Lee of Whigham, GA; paternal grandparents, Roy and Vivian Lee of Cairo, GA; maternal grandparents, Linda and Gary Connelly of Whigham, GA; step-father, Rick DenDekker of Whigham, GA; stepmother, Carmen Sadler of Cairo, GA; step-brother, Ricky DenDekker of Whigham, GA, Alex Sadler of Cairo, GA; nephew, Aiden Lee of Pelham, GA..

Kyle was preceded in death by: maternal grandfather, Philip Alvarez.

The family will receive friends at the home.

    he did not die at the hospital he die in th rode were he got hit and i am his stepbrother

    I can not put into words how bad I feel for the family. I would like to send my condolences to Chris and Michele, and the rest of the family. May God be with all of you. I am praying for everyone.

    To the family: Tragedy struck me this weekend also. Its the hardest thing to lose somebody you love so much. Please trust in God and he can help you through it. So sorry for your loss.

    Perhaps it is time for Grady County to build the skate park our youngsters have requested for many years.

      unfortunately, that will do nothing to curb kids from playing and skateboarding in their own driveways and in their own neighborhood streets. Same as building a bike BMX track will do nothing to curb accidents between kids on bikes and vehicles.
