ATLANTA (AP) -- A $35,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation will help hunters provide venison to local food banks in Georgia.
Under the system, Georgia hunters can donate deer to state-inspected meat processors, who give the meat to food banks.
That system is expected to provide 20,000 pounds of donated venison for the poor.
The CEO of the Georgia Wildlife Federation, Todd Holbrook, said hunters are expected to provide more than 60,000 meals throughout Georgia this year.
The program runs through hunting season, from September to February.
