Valdosta, GA - The City of Valdosta is recovering after multiple homes were broken into within the last week.
"We had I believe 4 residences that were broken into that were reported. No indication that they were connected, but investigators will look into them and see if they can tie them together", says Lt. Aaron Kirk, with the Valdosta Police Department.
The burglars stole everything from an x-box to a refridgerator, to tennis shoes.
Though there were four break-ins in four days and they were all within three miles of each other, Lt. Kirk says this isn't the work of The Grinch, in fact, it's something VPD expects this time of year.
"In general during the holiday season, we have more break-ins, more property crimes. People are out, what we call it is 'Christmas Shopping' They know people are buying Christmas gifts, so they break into homes trying to find items that they can easily sell on the street", says Kirk.
To avoid your Christmas gifts from being stolen, it is important to keep your belongings secure.
"They need to make sure they keep everything locked up. Get with their neighbors if they trust their neighbors. Look out for each other. Make sure you are aware of your surroundings. Have serial numbers written down so you can report them if you do have something stolen you can report that to the police."
If you have information about any of these break-ins, please contact the Valdosta Police Department at 229- 242-2606.
