The City of Cairo has launched its search for a gas superintendent (1/27).
The City Council voted to create the position and take away two others that are currently vacant in the city's gas department.
The decision comes following an investigation by the Public Safety Commission into the September 2010 gas explosion that killed one city worker and injured several others.
As a result --- the commission recommended a gas superintendent be added to the payroll to keep an eye on the maintenance and repair of Cairo gas lines --- and to make sure proper procedure is always followed.
The City says its search will be on-going until a suitable candidate is found.
