Commissioners Worried about Area Lakes

Leon County, FL -- Leon County Commissioners met with members of public works and envrionmental management at a workshop Tuesady.

Concerns have been raised about the Tired Creek dam being built in Grady County, GA and the potential impacts on the Ochlocknee River. The Ochlocknee is a resource for many Leon County lakes, but the Grady County project could lead to water quality issues and, in the worst case scenario, lakes drying up.

"Well I mean most of the people that live on the lakes would have big problems with that so there's astethics in there, and frankly you've just disrupted the entire eco system as you go down towards the coast there's a natural flow," said Leon County Commissioner Bryan Desloge.

County officials have asked Congressman Steve Southerland to help in trying to address their concerns with the Army Corps of Engineers in Grady County.
