Cook County, GA - August 3, 2011

The Cook County Sheriff's Office says three elderly women who live in the north end of the county were targeted.

They say a person posing as a reputable business owner called to ask for their date-of-birth and social security number.

"If you get these types of phone calls, number one you should ask these people where they're from and who they are," says Brent Exum, a deputy with the CCSO. "And never give them information. If it's somebody you're doing business with, they're already gonna have that information."

Deputies say the information is typically used to open fraudulent credit cards and urge anyone who receives these calls to report them immediately.

The Cook County Sheriff's Office can be reached at 229-896-7471.
