Deal, Barnes Spar in Georgia Debate

Atlanta, GA - Nathan Deal and Roy Barnes pointed fingers over
negative ads as the campaign for governor entered its final week.
In a debate at the state Capitol on Tuesday sponsored by WXIA,
the candidates each accused the other of starting the attacks --
which have grown increasingly hostile.
Barnes assailed the Republican Governors Association for
spending millions of dollars attacking him. The Democrat defended
his own ads, saying they've addressed Deal's financial dealings and
ethics -- which Barnes labeled "touchstone issues of integrity."
Deal, a Republican, says Barnes has been bashing him
relentlessly for months and "there comes a time when people pick
on you enough that you're going to respond."
Libertarian John Monds says he's avoided negative attacks.
