Atlaata, GA (AP) - Gov. Nathan Deal has named a top campaign
contributor to the state Board of Regents.
In one of his first official acts after taking the oath of
office as governor on Monday, Deal swore in Philip Wilheit of
Gainesville to fill an unexpired term on the board, which oversees
the state's 35 colleges and universities. The 66-year-old Wilheit
is president of Wilheit Packaging and Marketing Images.
A longtime Deal backer, Wilheit served as chairman of the former
congressman's gubernatorial campaign and was a key player on his
Wilheit, his family and his business contributed tens of
thousands of dollars to Deal.
Wilheit and Deal were also co-owners of a private airplane Deal
used during last year's campaign.
