According to the CDC nearly 30 million Americans have diabetes and close to 80 million adults have pre-diabetes. Doctors said the growth is due to lack of exercising and not having healthy balanced diets. The CDC reports that 7 million Americans don't know they have the disease.
Doctors said racial and ethnic minorities continue to have higher rates of diabetes.
"People have got to start listening they've just got to listen we are giving our children sugar we are giving our children so many carbohydrates not even realizing that's turning into sugar," said Sweet Basil's Health and Wellness Center Dr. Charlene Parrish.
According to the CDC 's latest data reports in 2008 over four- thousand adults in Thomas County lived with diabetes.
